I ate here once ten years ago with my then-girlfriend. I ate here later with her as my fiancee and again as my wife. We always stop at Johnson’s when we go to southern illinois. It’s the best BBQ I’ve ever had and the price can’t be beat.
First time here and didn't know what to expect. Thought it was a walk up place at first but was told it was a drive through so had to re adjust. Food was pretty good although we thought we would get out of the vehicle after a long trip but apparently that wasn't going to happen because we weren't allowed to park. I'm also going to assume that we showed up at a inconvenient time as it was just the owner unloading supplies working by himself when we got there. Will definitely be back in the future and I'll update this if seating is available. Back to the food.... The Italian beef I got was good and seasoned right... but I didn't understand how adding hot peppers to it turns it into a Philly cheese steak.... Just no .... That's not how that works lol. The turkey breast sandwich was delicious and you could taste the wood smoke, definitely not a added liquid smoke taste. You can tell the owner wants things to be right and to deliver a good meal that's worth what you pay.
I absolutely love this place best bar-b-q around!!! I used to live in Harrisburg but moved away! My dad Joe used to work here! We moved away and Everytime I get back that way I have to stop and grab it even though most of the time I already had a Harrisburg special lol!! Always make room!!!!
Best sauce in the world! We can't ever drive back to Texas from Carmi without stopping to grab all three bottles and the seasoning/rub.
We love supporting local businesses. My dad played high school football with the owner. The food is great and the sauce is even better!

First time there, got a Philly cheesesteak. The meat was flavorful and the onions and peppers were grilled perfectly, finished with melted cheese. Yum! Next time I’m getting the pulled pork. This might become my go to spot.
Best bbq I've ever had in my life! You have to check it out. Their corn fritters, baked beans and fries are great too! I live in Colorado. My brother lives in Harrisburg and I have him ship out Johnson's BBQ sauce because it's that delicious!
